"The Odyssey" Film Continues Strong Demand for Imax Screenings, Breaks Box Office Records

Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" is extending its successful theatrical run, continuing to draw significant crowds for its Imax screenings into its third week. The film's unique presentation, shot entirely with Imax 70 mm film cameras, is driving demand for showings in the specialized format.

AMC Theatres has reported that "The Odyssey" has become its most successful Imax run in history. The high demand has led moviegoers to actively monitor social media for updates on ticket releases, with many seeking out showings at all hours, including early morning slots.

The film achieved a massive opening weekend, grossing $124.5 million in the U.S. and Canada. It followed this with another $87 million in its second weekend, bringing its North American total to approximately $286 million and its worldwide gross to around $640 million. A significant portion of these ticket sales are attributed to Imax screens.

The scarcity of 70 mm Imax screens, with only 41 locations internationally and 25 in the U.S. showing the film in this format, has contributed to sellouts. Tickets for 70-mm screenings were reportedly sold out through mid-August and beyond in major markets like New York, Los Angeles, and London. Some patrons have resorted to physically queuing for tickets due to the difficulty in securing them online.
