The Verge Reviews: Cupertino Series Merges Tech Themes with Crime Drama
The Verge examines the new series Cupertino, which tackles technology-related societal concerns within a traditional crime procedural format.
The new TV series Cupertino integrates technology-centric themes into CBS's traditional crime drama format. While the pairing may initially seem unusual, The Verge suggests the outcome proves rewarding.
The show delves into current technology-related topics, including artificial intelligence advancements, data privacy concerns, and the influence of tech giants. It creates fictionalized parallels to familiar narratives, such as alleged voice appropriation by OpenAI and debates surrounding AI safeguards.
Initially displaying some uncertainty, the series quickly finds its footing in addressing its chosen subjects. It aims to resonate with viewers by exploring feelings of helplessness in the face of rapid change, extending beyond the immediate sphere of the tech industry.
The review notes that the seemingly conventional tools of broadcast television prove surprisingly effective for tackling these complex and timely issues, highlighting technology's broader societal impact.
