The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered Free Upgrade for Nintendo Switch 2 Available Via Physical Cartridge

CD Projekt Red's (CDPR) "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition" has been released for the Nintendo Switch 2, featuring a series of significant improvements. The game launched on September 29, and players who possess the original physical game cartridge can upgrade to the new version at no cost.

According to user feedback posted on Reddit, players can insert their original physical "The Witcher 3" cartridge into their Nintendo Switch 2 console. After updating the game, they can then download the remastered edition for free as a digital copy. Once downloaded, the game can be played without the cartridge, as the digital version is tied to the player's account.

Multiple players have confirmed that the same physical cartridge can be used an unlimited number of times. This allows players to borrow or rent an original cartridge and subsequently obtain a free upgrade to the remastered version. CDPR had previously pledged that upgrades for the remastered edition would be free across all platforms, including for owners of physical copies.

The remastered edition incorporates numerous enhancements, including a redesigned skill system, improved combat and movement mechanics, and visual upgrades such as ray tracing support and new lighting models. Both previous expansion packs, "Hearts of Stone" and "Blood and Wine," are included in the package. A new, paid expansion titled "Waves of the Future" is slated for release in 2027.
