George Lai Named CEO of The9 Limited

Shanghai, China – The9 Limited, a global diversified high-tech company, announced on July 27, 2026, that George Lai has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Lai, who has served as the company's Chief Financial Officer (CFO) since 2008, takes over from founder Jun Zhu.

Zhu will continue his role as Executive Chairman of the Board. Lai has been with The9 for nearly 18 years, playing a key role in the company's financial management and the development of its platform, the9bit. Wei Ji, Senior Legal Director, will serve as interim CFO while the company searches for a permanent successor.

Founder Jun Zhu described the transition as a significant turning point for the company, particularly as it enters an era focused on AI and digital assets.
