Component manufacturer Thermaltake has released the Dr. Power III Pro, a power supply diagnostic tool priced at $49.99. The device is specifically designed for ATX 3.1 power supplies and focuses on verifying the functionality of PCIe 12+4-pin (12VHPWR) connectors used by modern graphics cards.

The Dr. Power III Pro can identify the sideband signals from the graphics card's power connector, determining the supported power delivery level. This allows users during system assembly to confirm if the power supply correctly recognizes the connector's specifications and reports the appropriate power class to the GPU.

Thermaltake clarifies that this tool is not a graphics card load tester. Its primary function is to check connector status, voltage levels, and diagnose connection integrity, rather than measuring power supply performance.

The diagnostic tool also supports checks for other common power connectors, including 24-pin ATX motherboard, 4/8-pin CPU, 6/8-pin PCIe (standard), SATA, and IDE (Molex). A color screen on the front displays the voltage readings for each connection. The device features both manual and automatic modes, with audible and visual alerts for detected abnormalities.
