Think tank urges global leaders to open crisis talks

The Hague-based Building the Bridge Foundation has urged former US President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Russian President Vladimir Putin to open immediate crisis talks. The foreign policy think tank warned that global confrontation is nearing a breaking point.

The foundation is proposing the establishment of a permanent "Great-Power Bridge Forum for Peace." This initiative follows a January 2026 Nobel Peace Prize nomination that challenged the three leaders to maintain open channels, exercise restraint, and ensure humanitarian access amid rising global tensions.

"Time is short for the 2026 prize consideration—but no worries! We'll renominate them next January if warranted," said founder and chairman Abraham A. van Kempen. He added that the proposed forum would restore military and nuclear-risk hotlines, and resume talks on arms control, cyber stability, and AI risks.

The foundation also called for support for humanitarian corridors and prisoner exchanges. Van Kempen emphasized the need to protect people-to-people contacts and renew trade cooperation, stating, "Stabilizing trade can ease pressure while adapting globalization to current security, labor, and environmental realities."

Van Kempen concluded, "Build the bridge before dialogue ceases." The organization advocates for transforming conflict into dialogue and rivalry into responsibility through practical dialogue and humanitarian concern.
