Third-Party Tool Enables DLSS 5 on AMD Graphics Cards

A third-party developer, Daniel, has created a tool named DLSS-NR-on-AMD, enabling Nvidia's DLSS 5 neural rendering technology to function on AMD Radeon graphics cards. This allows AMD hardware to leverage Nvidia's AI-driven image enhancement technology, despite it being originally designed for Nvidia's own GPUs.

DLSS 5, similar to previous versions, can cause significant performance drops even on Nvidia's high-end graphics cards. Estimates suggest performance degradation could exceed 50 percent. Theoretically, using a third-party tool on AMD cards might exacerbate performance issues compared to Nvidia's native solutions.

Daniel's DLSS-NR-on-AMD tool supports AMD's Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000 series graphics cards. Initially, the tool focused on bug fixes and minor performance issues, leading to a poor gaming experience. However, development has accelerated considerably in recent times.

Recent updates have brought substantial improvements. Version Alpha 0.3.3 increased performance by 23 percent over the previous release. Just one day later, Alpha 0.4.0 was released, further boosting performance by 42 percent. Combined, these two updates have enhanced the tool's performance by nearly 74 percent within a single day.

For instance, in Cyberpunk 2077 at a 3440x1440 resolution, 50 FPS was achieved, a significant increase from the approximately 30 FPS previously obtained. Developer Daniel has indicated that further significant performance enhancements are expected soon.
