Thirty Percent of Canadians Registered on Online Gambling Websites
A survey by Ipsos reveals that 30% of Canadian adults are registered on at least one online gambling website. In Ontario, this figure rises to 33%.
Thirty percent of Canadian adults report being registered on at least one website offering online betting, according to a survey conducted by research firm Ipsos. In Ontario, where a regulated online gambling market launched in April 2022, the proportion of registered individuals is slightly higher at 33%.
The Atlantic Canada region has the highest share of online gamblers, at 41% of adults. British Columbia matches Ontario at 33%. Quebec reports 26%, Alberta 24%, and Manitoba and Saskatchewan at 22%.
The study indicates that the average Canadian online gambler is registered with 3.6 gambling websites. Atlantic Canada leads with an average of 4.7 sites, while Manitoba and Saskatchewan have the lowest average at 2.7 sites.
When choosing where to play, private operators are more popular than platforms run by provincial governments. Canadian online gamblers allocate 56% of their wagers to private sites and 44% to provincial sites. Only in Quebec does the provincial site, Lotoquebec.com, prove more popular, capturing 57% of players' spending.
