Thoughtful Holiday Gifts Boost Employee Motivation Into New Year, Research Finds

Thoughtful holiday gifting by companies can significantly boost employee motivation and job satisfaction that extends into the new year, according to new research released by Snappy. The study found that 78% of employees report that a well-considered holiday gift would increase their motivation heading into the new year.

Furthermore, 66% of those who experienced an increase in job satisfaction after receiving a holiday gift stated that the positive impact lasted for three months or longer. The report, based on a September 2026 survey of 1,500 full-time U.S. employees, highlights the importance of gifts feeling personal and relevant to the recipient.

The research indicates that employees value gifts that "feel personal to me" (43%) or demonstrate that the giver knows them (31%). Generic or irrelevant gifts can diminish the impact of recognition. Nearly half of employees (49%) reported receiving a workplace gift that made them feel the giver didn't know them at all.

Snappy suggests that companies should prioritize thoughtful and personalized gifts that communicate employee value. This approach can enhance engagement and foster a positive attitude toward the employer over an extended period. The findings offer companies insights into how investing in employee appreciation at the end of the year can yield substantial benefits throughout the following year.
