TibaRay Begins Manufacturing Next-Generation Cancer Treatment Systems

Silicon Valley medical technology company TibaRay, founded on Stanford University research, has begun manufacturing its first Galactica™ cancer treatment systems. This milestone advances the company's next-generation radiotherapy technology toward patient use.

The Galactica system is designed for integration with upright radiotherapy platforms, allowing patients to be treated sitting or standing rather than lying down. This approach aims to improve patient comfort while enabling precise treatment with a smaller system footprint. Radiotherapy benefits nearly two-thirds of cancer patients, yet much existing technology is decades old.

Based on accelerator technology originally invented at Stanford University, TibaRay's system represents the first new class of medical linear accelerators in approximately 70 years. The proprietary Galactica technology generates high-energy X-rays for cancer treatment in a more compact and efficient system designed to enhance treatment precision and reduce the cost and complexity of advanced radiotherapy equipment.

The manufacturing milestone follows TibaRay's preparation for initial clinical installations. The systems will be integrated into Leo Cancer Care's platform, with the first installation planned later this year at Mayo Clinic. The company is also developing FLASH therapy, an emerging treatment that could eliminate tumors quickly with minimal damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
