The Morton Arboretum announced public tickets for its annual Illumination light exhibition will go on sale Oct. 15. The 14th season begins Nov. 14, featuring new installations and a model train experience.

The Morton Arboretum will release public tickets for its annual Illumination light exhibition on October 15. The exhibition's 14th season will run from November 14, 2026, to January 2, 2027. This year's display includes 22 light installations, featuring four new large-scale additions and a new model train experience called the Pine Whistle Railroad.
New features include a more than 400-foot canopy inspired by the aurora borealis, a light tunnel called Lightwave, a landscape installation named Cosmic Garden, and a Fairy Forest. The Pine Whistle Railroad, located in the Firefly Pavilion, offers detailed miniature scenes and model train tracks.
Amy Scott, the Arboretum's head of exhibitions, stated that this year's Illumination provides new ways for guests to experience the wonder of trees and nature. She highlighted the Northern Lights installation and the Pine Whistle Railroad as particular draws for both returning and first-time visitors.
The one-mile outdoor trail is ADA-accessible and showcases 22 custom-designed light displays. The exhibition also includes refreshed fan favorites like Treemagination and Symphony Woods, along with interactive elements. Four large Vivid Creatures sculptures are also part of the display.
The event will launch with IllumiBrew, a 21+ preview event on November 13 featuring seasonal beverages from local breweries. Dog-friendly nights will also be held later in the season.
