Tigerlily Foundation Hosts Health Literacy Event for Girls and Families

The Tigerlily Foundation will host its annual Pajama Glam Party on Saturday, October 17, 2026, in Washington D.C. The event aims to bring together approximately 150 girls, caregivers, and community members for an afternoon focused on health literacy, self-advocacy, and connection.

Held during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Pajama Glam is designed to equip the next generation with the knowledge and confidence to advocate for their health. The event aligns with the Tigerlily Foundation's 20-year mission to turn awareness into action.

Inspired by the daughter of the foundation's CEO, Maimah Karmo, whose own breast cancer diagnosis highlighted the need for child-centered health discussions, the event offers a relaxed, pajama-clad setting. This approach facilitates conversations about body awareness, prevention, family health history, and emotional wellness.

Health Literacy Emphasized Amidst Disparities

Data indicates that a significant portion of adults struggle with complex health information, and Black women face higher breast cancer mortality rates. These statistics underscore the importance of accessible and understandable health education for families.

Pajama Glam introduces age-appropriate topics such as body awareness and family health history, fostering confidence in asking questions and seeking appropriate care. The event aims to build a foundation for lifelong health advocacy.

From Fun to Empowerment Across Generations

The gathering provides a welcoming space to discuss sensitive topics like illness, fear, and hereditary risks, promoting generational health and empowerment. Participants are encouraged to engage in interactive activities focused on wellness and self-expression.

"My mom's journey taught me how important it is to know your own body and recognize when something doesn't feel right," said Noelle Karmo, daughter of the foundation's CEO. "The earlier girls learn to advocate for themselves and be proactive about their health, the better equipped they are to speak up and seek care."

The event encourages attendees to wear pajamas and sparkle, creating an environment where fun meets empowerment. The foundation, celebrating 20 years, uses Pajama Glam to extend its mission of ending health disparities by engaging families early in their health journeys.
