TikTok enters local discovery market with restaurant guide feature
TikTok has introduced an in-app restaurant recommendation tool called Must Eat, consolidating user-generated reviews and map data to compete with established platforms like Google Maps and Yelp.

TikTok has launched 'Must Eat,' a new section within its application that aggregates video reviews, location data, and user comments to provide restaurant recommendations. The feature draws on approximately 40 million posts related to dining, allowing users to browse local businesses, book reservations, and view results through an integrated map interface.
This move positions TikTok as a direct competitor to major local search services, including Google Maps and Yelp. By leveraging the existing volume of short-form video content related to culinary experiences, the platform aims to capture user intent for dining discovery that previously migrated to dedicated review or search sites.
TikTok US CEO Adam Presser stated that the tool is designed to organize existing platform discussions into a structured discovery experience. While the platform has long served as an informal source for dining trends, this launch marks a formal integration into the local search and reservation utility market.
