TikTok expands features to evolve into a multi-service platform
TikTok has introduced an in-app restaurant guide and is developing peer-to-peer payment features, signalling a shift toward a broader digital service model.

TikTok is incrementally expanding its platform functionality beyond short-form video, moving toward a "super app" model that integrates multiple digital services into one interface. The latest addition, an in-app restaurant guide, joins recent features such as TikTok Shop, expanded search capabilities, and map-based local discovery tools.
Reports indicate that the company is also testing features to enable financial transactions, specifically allowing users to send money through direct messages. These moves reflect a broader strategy to transform the application from a social media feed into a versatile digital hub capable of handling commerce, local navigation, and personal finance.
The approach mirrors the "super app" model prevalent in the Chinese market, exemplified by platforms like WeChat, which consolidate social, retail, and financial services. By diversifying its feature set, TikTok aims to increase user dependency on the app for daily digital tasks beyond entertainment.
