TKMS to Build Four Frigates for German Navy
Germany's defense budget committee has approved the construction of four MEKO A-200 DEU frigates for the German Navy. The vessels will be built in Bremerhaven, with the first delivery scheduled for 2029.

German shipbuilder TKMS (Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems) is set to construct four new frigates for the German Navy. The German Bundestag's budget committee has given its approval for the project. According to TKMS, the ships will be built in collaboration with partner companies in Bremerhaven, correcting earlier reports that suggested construction in Kiel.
The first frigate is expected to be delivered to the German Navy as early as 2029. This contract solidifies TKMS's role in the European defense sector. The company recently secured a significant, multi-billion euro contract with Canada for the construction of up to twelve submarines, which will be built at TKMS facilities in Kiel and Wismar.
The acquisition of these new frigates is part of Germany's broader initiative to modernize its naval capabilities. The MEKO A-200 DEU frigates are designed to enhance the German Navy's operational capacity and readiness for national and international missions.
