Tom Hiddleston Guides Viewers Through Pompeii's Final Day in New Docuseries

National Geographic has announced the release of Pompeii: Out of Time, a new three-part docuseries. The series features actor Tom Hiddleston taking on the role of a "time detective" to guide viewers through the final day of the city of Pompeii before the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE.

The volcanic eruption buried Pompeii under molten rock, pumice, and hot ash, leading to the deaths of thousands. Executive producer Kevin Wright, who also produced on the Disney+ series Loki, noted a connection to that production, which included a scene with Hiddleston's character traveling to Pompeii.

Hiddleston has a personal connection to the subject, having studied classics at Cambridge University and visited the Pompeii archaeological site as a teenager. Wright expressed that Hiddleston's "infectious" passion for storytelling could draw in audiences who might not typically watch historical documentaries.

Pompeii: Out of Time aims to vividly bring the lives of Pompeii's inhabitants to life, utilizing Hiddleston's portrayal and insights to explore the events leading up to the disaster.
