Körber is supporting UK retailer Toolstation's expansion by upgrading its supply chain operations with its Warehouse Execution System (WES) and voice-directed picking technology. The move aims to address challenges faced by Toolstation due to increasing online and in-store order demand, which had outpaced its previous paper-based processes.

The project focuses on enhancing efficiency within Toolstation's Redditch distribution center. The company sought a solution to boost workforce productivity, simplify picking, increase warehouse capacity, and integrate with its existing proprietary Order Management System. Toolstation experienced growth that stressed its manual processes, leading to insufficient visibility and productivity constraints.

Körber's solution integrates WES with voice technology to streamline operations. The WES optimizes order processing by grouping orders geographically to reduce travel time for warehouse staff and enables multi-order picking for multiple customers simultaneously. This system also maximizes the fill rate of delivery units, potentially lowering transportation costs and improving picking efficiency.

The voice technology component allows workers to receive and confirm instructions via headset, ensuring process adherence, improving accuracy, and shortening training times for new employees. Körber stated that this dual system provides near real-time operational visibility through dashboards, giving management deeper insight into warehouse activities.
