Topgolf Saved Over $11 Million After VMware Software Migration
Topgolf has migrated 12,000 virtual machines to VergeIO's platform to avoid significant cost increases following a software vendor change. The company reported substantial savings.

Topgolf, the global sports entertainment company, has reported saving over $11.3 million by migrating 12,000 virtual machines (VMs) from VMware to VergeIO's VergeOS platform. The move was prompted by an anticipated 400 percent increase in costs associated with its previous VMware environment following its acquisition by Broadcom.
Scott Forehand, Topgolf's global infrastructure manager, stated that the company's prior reliance on VMware was extensive, having used its vSphere and ESXi solutions for decades, and its VxRail hyperconverged infrastructure since 2017. Topgolf has historically been a deeply integrated VMware customer.
The migration impacts Topgolf's operations across its more than 100 global locations, which utilize real-time shot tracking and digital analytics. The decision to switch platforms was driven by the need to manage escalating software licensing expenses.
The reported savings of over $11 million highlight the financial impact of software licensing agreements for large enterprises. Forehand has previously been an active participant in VMware user groups and discussions.
