Tourism Authority of Thailand Highlights Nakhon Phanom Illuminated Boat Procession
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is promoting the Nakhon Phanom Illuminated Boat Procession internationally. The event celebrates faith, craftsmanship, and Mekong culture.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is working to bring the Nakhon Phanom Illuminated Boat Procession to a wider international audience. The annual event, held from October 16–27 at the Nakhon Phanom Provincial Hall and along the Mekong riverfront, culminates on October 26 with a celebration of the end of Buddhist Lent featuring illuminated boats.
The festival, which aims to solidify its status as a "Must-Experience in Thailand" event, blends religious traditions, local craftsmanship, and community spirit. TAT views the festival as a way to support the province's night economy and encourage longer stays for visitors.
The procession's highlight, the illuminated boat competition, takes place on October 26. Twelve boats, representing the province's districts, will compete for beauty and creativity. Visitors can also view 13 ancient-style illuminated boats representing the zodiac signs.
The 12-day festival also includes longboat races, markets showcasing local products and cuisine, and traditional Molam performances, connecting the illuminated boat tradition with Nakhon Phanom's riverside life and culture.
