Toyota recalls over 55,000 Prado and Lexus vehicles in China due to fuel leak risk
FAW Toyota and Toyota China have initiated a recall for over 55,000 hybrid vehicles to address a potential defect in fuel line connectors.
The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) in China has confirmed that FAW Toyota and Toyota China are recalling a combined total of over 55,000 vehicles due to safety concerns regarding fuel leakage. The recall affects 47,347 domestically produced Prado hybrid vehicles and 8,130 imported Lexus GX550h hybrids.
Authorities launched an investigation into the issue, which stems from a potential failure in the fast-connector retainer for the fuel line. External forces during vehicle operation could cause the retainer to dislodge, potentially leading to the detachment of the fuel line and subsequent fuel leakage. This poses a significant fire hazard.
Under the recall, dealerships will perform free inspections of the affected fuel line connectors. If no abnormalities are found, technicians will install an additional securing cover. In cases where the connector is already damaged, the entire fuel line assembly will be replaced. Owners are advised to contact authorized service centers for repairs.
