Toyota revises July production down due to parts shortage

Toyota Motor Corporation has announced its global production plan for July, with an expected volume of approximately 800,000 vehicles. Of this total, roughly 250,000 units are planned for production in Japan and 550,000 units overseas.

The automaker has revised its July production target downwards by about 50,000 units compared to the number initially communicated to suppliers. The adjustment is attributed to parts shortages exacerbated by supply chain disruptions stemming from the spread of COVID-19. Toyota has reiterated its apologies for the inconveniences caused to customers awaiting vehicle deliveries, as well as to its suppliers.

Further production adjustments include the extension of operational suspensions at several plants and production lines. These measures were initially planned for June and July but have been prolonged due to the ongoing impact of a COVID-19 outbreak at one of Toyota's component suppliers.

The company estimates a monthly average production volume of around 850,000 units for the July-September period. The full fiscal year production forecast remains unchanged at approximately 9.7 million units. However, Toyota notes that the persisting shortage of semiconductors and the unpredictable nature of the pandemic could lead to production volumes falling below these forecasts.
