TP-Link releases first Wi-Fi 8 router, Archer 8 Ultra
TP-Link has launched its first Wi-Fi 8 router, the Archer 8 Ultra, in markets including the UK, Australia, and Germany. The device offers a theoretical combined wireless speed of up to 19 Gbps.
TP-Link, a global networking solutions provider, has introduced its first router based on the forthcoming Wi-Fi 8 standard, the Archer 8 Ultra. The device became available for purchase in several markets, including the UK, Australia, and Germany, on September 30.
The router is priced at £669.99 in the UK during its initial launch phase, with plans to increase the price to £899.99 later. In Germany, the device is available for approximately €799.90. The US market launch is pending regulatory coordination.
The Archer 8 Ultra operates on a draft IEEE 802.11bn standard, delivering a theoretical aggregated tri-band wireless speed of up to 19 Gbps. It features dual 10 Gbps auto-sensing WAN/LAN ports and multiple 2.5 Gbps ports. The manufacturer states the router's coverage area is approximately 3600 square feet, supported by 18 high-performance antennas.
The product was first showcased at IFA 2026 in Berlin. TP-Link states the router utilizes a Broadcom Wi-Fi 8 chipset and its proprietary Wi-Fi 8 StabilityEngine technology, designed to enhance throughput stability and connection consistency over medium to long distances and in congested environments.
The Wi-Fi 8 standard is not expected to be finalized until around 2028. Early products may receive additional features through future firmware updates. TP-Link has also outlined its roadmap for future Wi-Fi 8 products, including the Deco 8 Ultra tri-band Mesh system and the Roam 8 travel router.
