Thailand's TPI Polene cement plant has implemented Metso Outotec's in-pit crushing and conveying (IPCC) system, resulting in significant reductions in operational costs and carbon dioxide emissions.

TPI Polene reduces costs and CO2 emissions with Metso solution

Thai cement manufacturer TPI Polene Public Company Limited has implemented Metso Outotec's in-pit crushing and conveying (IPCC) system to reduce costs and carbon dioxide emissions. The plant, located in Saraburi province and among Thailand's top three cement producers, has a history of sustainability, holding ISO 9002 certification and a Carbon Label for reduced CO2 emissions.

This latest system follows a previous collaboration where TPI Polene replaced traditional truck haulage with mobile crushers and conveyor belts in 2012. The initial installation included three Lokotrack LT1418E mobile crushers and Lokolink conveyors, producing 600-700 tonnes of limestone per hour. This solution reportedly led to a 50% saving in haulage costs compared to previous truck operations.

For a newer project involving the extraction of shale and andesite, TPI Polene sought to further leverage IPCC benefits. Due to the sticky nature of the fine material in the deposit, Metso Outotec, in collaboration with Komatsu Mining, developed the LT1510RC crusher, which is better suited for this material than the originally planned jaw or impact crushers.

The implementation of this system is expected to yield further savings in haulage costs, reduce dust and exhaust gas emissions, and improve worker safety. TPI Polene has also invested in waste heat recovery power plants and refuse-derived fuel (RDF) facilities, generating electricity from its cement operations and solidifying its position as Thailand's largest waste-to-energy power producer.
