Trade group: Trump's 100% US-made tech goal unrealistic

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), a prominent U.S. technology trade group, has released an analysis of President Donald Trump's objective to ensure all technology used in the United States is manufactured domestically.

According to the CTA, Trump's "Genesis Mission" initiative, which aims to leverage U.S. dominance in areas like AI, robotics, biotech, semiconductors, and nuclear technologies through self-sustaining supply chains, is deemed impractical and prohibitively expensive.

The association has previously expressed concerns about the feasibility of Trump's reshoring ambitions. This latest estimate attempts to quantify the potential costs for businesses and consumers if such a plan were to be implemented, highlighting the challenges of producing all components within the U.S., even excluding allied nations.

The analysis is expected to detail significant economic hurdles, including substantial investments in manufacturing infrastructure and research, which could lead to increased product prices and reduced global competitiveness. The CTA's findings underscore the integral role of global supply chains in the modern technology sector and question the viability of complete domestic self-sufficiency.
