Traditional Föhr Market Opens with New Security Measures

The annual autumn market on the North Sea island of Föhr, located in the Nordfriesland district, opened on Thursday. The event, which has a tradition spanning approximately 80 years in its current format, will run until October 19 and features around 35 stalls and various amusement rides.

This year's attractions include popular rides such as the "Break Dancer" and "Autoscooter," alongside numerous food vendors. However, organizers Föhr Tourismus GmbH have placed a significant emphasis on enhanced safety measures.

The enhanced security follows an incident last year where a local resident died after a dispute with security staff. The Flensburg public prosecutor's office concluded its investigation, determining the cause of death to be a severe pre-existing heart condition. Consequently, new security protocols and personnel are in place for this year's market.

The market aims to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees. It is expected to draw visitors from the region and tourists alike to the island during its operational period.
