Traveler expectations transform hospitality sector
Amadeus identifies changing traveler expectations as a key driver transforming the hospitality sector. Sustainability, digital solutions, and personalized experiences are central themes.

Amadeus IT Group, a technology provider for the travel industry, has released a report outlining how evolving traveler expectations are reshaping the hospitality sector. Global hotel occupancy recovered significantly in the first half of 2023, reaching 67% and nearing pre-pandemic levels from 2019. Destinations like Milan, Athens, Rome, and Paris saw occupancy rates exceed 2019 figures in July.
The report, titled "Catalysts for Change: Building the Hospitality Ecosystem of the Future," highlights five primary forces influencing traveler demands. These include a greater emphasis on sustainable travel options, the integration of digital tools for enhanced guest experiences, a desire for personalized services, increased demand for flexible travel insurance to provide peace of mind, and streamlined, seamless booking processes.
Amadeus underscores the importance of an ecosystem approach and collaboration within the industry. By working together, hotels, travel sellers, and technology providers can create more integrated and superior experiences for travelers. This collaborative model benefits travelers with smoother journeys and providers through improved data insights and customer loyalty.
