TreeSize Ends Perpetual License Support Without Subscription
The developer of the disk space analyzer TreeSize, JAM Software, will no longer provide support or updates for perpetual licenses after their maintenance period concludes unless users subscribe to the software.
JAM Software, the company behind the disk space analyzer TreeSize, has announced that it will cease offering support and software updates for perpetual licenses once their maintenance period expires, requiring users to subscribe for continued service. This change has reportedly caused frustration among some users.
The company's established policy of not providing license keys or installers to perpetual license holders after the support period ends has also compounded user dissatisfaction.
Since 2025, JAM Software has been transitioning most TreeSize editions to subscription models. Currently, perpetual licenses are sold exclusively for personal use, which include 12 months of updates, support, and access to older versions and the license itself, with an option to extend the support period.
TreeSize Product Manager Hendrik Christ confirmed to Ars Technica that there are no plans to discontinue the sale of perpetual licenses for TreeSize Personal. However, customers are discovering that extending support after their current maintenance period ends now generally requires them to subscribe to software they already own the right to use.
