Trellis Bioscience Raises $9 Million for Clinical Trials

Redwood City, Calif. – Trellis Bioscience, a clinical-stage biotechnology company, announced on July 16, 2026, the closing of a $9 million Series C financing round. The funds will support the completion of the company's Phase 2 trial for calpurbatug (TRL1068), an investigational therapy for chronic prosthetic joint infections (PJI).

The funding round included support from existing investors and new participants, notably the AMR Action Fund. This brings Trellis's total equity funding to approximately $35 million, supplemented by a significant amount of non-dilutive grant support from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and CARB-X.

Prosthetic joint infections are a serious and difficult-to-treat complication following artificial joint replacements such as hips and knees. In the U.S. alone, an estimated 25,000 patients are affected annually. Current treatment standards, often involving two-stage surgical revisions, are burdensome for patients and carry high rates of failure and mortality. Trellis's calpurbatug targets the disruption of the biofilm that protects the infection and hinders antibiotic efficacy.

"We are excited to have the backing of the AMR Action Fund... as we move ahead in our efforts to redefine how antibiotic-resistant infections are treated in the future," said Trellis CEO Geoff Dillon. "Calpurbatug represents a new class of agents with potential utility in a substantial number of antibiotic-resistant infections."

Trellis anticipates top-line results from its Phase 2 trial in the second quarter of 2027. Calpurbatug has received Orphan Drug, Fast Track, and Qualified Infectious Disease Product (QIDP) designations from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
