TRMNL and Seeed Studio launch customizable e-paper display kit
A new $48 DIY hardware kit from TRMNL and Seeed Studio offers a customizable e-paper display, providing an alternative to repurposing decommissioned enterprise hardware.

TRMNL, in partnership with Seeed Studio, has released a $48 DIY kit featuring an e-paper display designed for user-defined content. The device aims to provide a low-power, flexible interface that operates independently of complex operating systems or high-resource hardware requirements.
The launch targets hobbyists who have historically relied on modding discarded enterprise devices, such as the Lenovo ThinkSmart View, to create custom wall-mounted displays. While repurposed business hardware often suffers from limited memory and software compatibility issues, the TRMNL kit provides a streamlined alternative specifically engineered for static data visualization.
The hardware is compatible with various software ecosystems, allowing users to configure the display for personal utility, such as kitchen dashboards or productivity tracking. By utilizing e-paper technology, the unit maintains high visibility without the power drain associated with traditional LCD screens.
