Trump Agrees Diesel Deal with Putin Amidst US Senate Criticism
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin on diesel deliveries, which he termed an "energy ceasefire." However, U.S. senators and Canada have criticized the deal.

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced he reached an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding diesel shipments, a deal he described as an "energy ceasefire." The announcement followed discussions where Trump suggested the conflict's resolution hinged on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s willingness to hold elections under specific conditions.
However, the agreement has faced significant criticism. U.S. senators have accused President Trump of violating existing legislation, and Canada has also voiced disapproval of the arrangement with Russia. Reports indicate that the U.S. Congress is seeking to block the diesel arrangement.
Ukrainian Energy Facilities Targeted Post-Ceasefire Announcement
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Russia targeted energy facilities in Ukraine shortly after Trump's announcement. He stated that a Shahed drone attacked a power plant in Kyiv, with further attacks on energy infrastructure reported later in the Kharkiv region. Zelenskyy highlighted that these strikes occurred after the U.S. President declared the "energy ceasefire."
Meanwhile, European Union foreign ministers are preparing to approve a substantial sanctions package against Russia. The proposed sanctions target nearly 1,600 individuals and organizations linked to Russia's war efforts.
