Trump AI Lunch Includes Major Tech Firms, Apple Absent

President Donald Trump convened with leaders from the world's most influential technology companies in Washington on Tuesday to discuss the future of artificial intelligence. However, one prominent company was conspicuously absent: Apple.

Neither Apple Chairman Tim Cook nor his successor as CEO, John Ternus, attended the lunch, which included executives from nearly every other major U.S. tech firm. Neither Apple nor the White House responded to inquiries regarding the company's absence.

Speculation circulated on social media about Apple's potential non-invitation, suggesting the company might be lagging in AI development. However, Altimeter Capital CEO Brad Gerstner dismissed Apple's absence as a "nothing burger" in a CNBC interview.

"I can assure you, they're very much read in on all of this, and I suspect they agree with all of it," Gerstner stated. He pointed out that Cook had visited the White House less than a week prior for a state dinner with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Gerstner characterized the companies present at the lunch as those "really pushing the frontier on model development," suggesting this focus might differ from Apple's approach, which reportedly emphasizes smaller, more efficient internal models.
