Trump Cancels Pentagon Plans for Firing Squad Execution Livestream

President Donald Trump has canceled the Pentagon's controversial plan to livestream the execution of Nidal Hasan, who was convicted in the 2009 Fort Hood mass shooting. The execution is scheduled to take place on December 3.

Hasan was found guilty of killing 13 people and wounding more than 30 others during the 2009 attack. While Trump supports Hasan's execution, sources indicated the president was blindsided by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's announcement that the event—the first U.S. execution of a soldier since World War II—would be livestreamed.

The plan to livestream the execution faced immediate and bipartisan backlash. An ABC News poll conducted on the morning of the cancellation revealed that 80 percent of Americans opposed the livestream, including a 55 percent majority of MAGA Republicans.

The execution by firing squad is still set to proceed, but without the planned public broadcast. The initial proposal had drawn criticism regarding its ethical implications and potential impact.
