Trump Demands FCC Punish Journalist Over Election Endorsement Results

President Donald Trump on Monday called for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to punish or rebuke NBC journalist Kristen Welker for her characterization of his election endorsement results as "mixed." Trump claimed Welker's statement on the program Meet the Press constituted a "purposeful inaccuracy."

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump asserted that Welker, the show's host, had presented false information. He stated that his endorsed candidates had achieved a 100% win rate in recent U.S. Senate races and a 98% win rate in U.S. House races, questioning how such a statement could be allowed on "freely given Public Airwaves."

This action appears to be the latest instance of Trump leveraging the FCC to target news organizations and reporters he perceives as critical. Earlier in the week, Trump also issued a public statement against New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman, demanding she turn over any money earned from her reporting on him.

Trump has frequently criticized media coverage of election outcomes and polling data, labeling it as "fake" and urging the FCC to intervene. His repeated calls for regulatory action against journalists raise concerns regarding press freedom and the potential for governmental overreach.
