Donald Trump's strategy to address risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI) centers on the technology industry regulating itself. This approach is being promoted as the primary method for managing the dangers of frontier AI development.

In an agreement reached Tuesday, two dozen tech firms voluntarily committed to adopting controls recommended by the White House. These commitments include undergoing independent safety audits designed to verify the efficacy of internal controls, monitoring, and detection systems.

The external reviews will specifically assess risks related to cybersecurity, biosecurity, chemical threats, and unintended actions by AI models. The participating companies also agreed to convene regularly to exchange best practices and establish common AI safety standards and benchmarks.

Prominent signatories included leaders from major technology companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, SpaceXAI, Nvidia, Meta, and Alphabet/Google.
