TSMC Chip Capacity Becomes Fierce Battleground for AI Customers
Demand for advanced chips at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is driving fierce competition as AI applications surge. The company reported record profits and anticipates substantial revenue growth.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is at the center of intense competition for its advanced chip manufacturing capacity, fueled by surging demand from artificial intelligence applications.
The company has once again reported record profits, highlighting the sustained demand for its production lines. TSMC, the world's leading manufacturer of advanced semiconductors, is struggling to meet demand quickly, potentially limiting the expansion pace of the entire industry. Analysts describe the situation as an "extremely fierce" competition for manufacturing time.
TSMC produces the critical graphics and central processor chips necessary for AI workloads. In addition to major clients like Nvidia and AMD, tech giants such as Apple, Google, and Amazon now also rely on TSMC to manufacture their custom AI accelerators. These companies are working to secure production capacity through long-term contracts and bespoke arrangements.
The capacity constraints for TSMC's advanced chip manufacturing could pose a risk to an industry making substantial investments in AI infrastructure. Reports indicate that TSMC's North America CEO receives up to 10 calls daily regarding chip capacity. The company declined to comment.
At the heart of this competition is TSMC executive Kevin Zhang, described by customers as "probably the most popular person on the planet" due to his influence over which chipmakers gain access to the company's coveted production lines.
