TSMC Plans Further Price Increases for Advanced Chips in 2027
TSMC is reportedly planning another price increase of 6-8% for its most advanced chip wafers in Q1 2027, adding to previous hikes amid rising manufacturing costs.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is reportedly planning further price increases for its most advanced chip manufacturing processes. South Korean media reported on October 2nd that TSMC intends to raise prices for its 2-nanometer process wafers by an additional 6-8% in the first quarter of 2027.
These planned hikes follow earlier reports of 10-20% increases. The company cites rising manufacturing costs and electricity expenses as the primary drivers for the adjustments. Demand for TSMC's cutting-edge technologies has been high, leading to tight capacity.
Reports indicate that orders for the 2-nanometer process have surged, prompting TSMC to increase its production targets by 15-20%. The company has brought multiple dedicated production facilities online to meet this demand. However, the concentrated capacity has made it difficult for some clients to secure additional wafer allocations.
The tight supply and increasing costs from TSMC may present opportunities for competitors, such as Samsung. Samsung is advancing its own 2-nanometer process and aims for improved yield rates. Should Samsung achieve greater process stability, it could potentially attract customers seeking alternative foundry services due to TSMC's pricing and capacity constraints.
