Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has decided to further increase its wafer shipment prices by approximately 3-6%, effective January 2027. Reports indicate that the exact price increase will be determined by the specific manufacturing process node.

Advanced process nodes, such as 2nm and 3nm, are expected to see higher percentage increases. For mature and specialty processes, adjustments will be made on a case-by-case basis, with overall increases estimated to be between 3-5%.

The semiconductor contract manufacturing market is experiencing an overall supply-demand imbalance, particularly pronounced for advanced nodes critical to AI applications. Capacity for peripheral chips, including power and driver ICs, is also tight, providing TSMC and other manufacturers leverage for price adjustments.

Furthermore, the high upfront investment costs for overseas facilities, such as TSMC Arizona in the United States, are a factor. The price increases are intended to help offset potential gross margin dilution as these new fabs ramp up production.

The sustained collective rise in costs for components like core chips, peripheral ICs, memory, storage, as well as PCBs and substrates, signals increased pricing pressure on end-user technology hardware products.
