TSV LLC has completed the first trade of a tokenized U.S. equity under the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) innovation exemption. The transaction utilized the Tradecraft automated market maker protocol to facilitate the purchase of Canton Strategic Holdings (CNTN) shares on the Canton Network.
DRW Cumberland executed the trade by purchasing shares from Five North, with Fairmint TA LLC acting as the SEC-registered transfer agent. The digital records of ownership were housed in a verified wallet, ensuring that the tokenized shares maintained the same legal rights and privileges as those traded on the Nasdaq exchange.
The SEC’s innovation exemption, introduced in September 2026, provides a regulatory pathway for permissioned platforms to trade tokenized stocks. Industry data indicates a significant rise in tokenized assets throughout the year, with total on-chain value expanding from approximately $678 million to over $3 billion by the end of the third quarter.
TSV co-founder Ryan Trinkle stated that the initiative establishes a framework for how tokenized equities can function within U.S. regulatory boundaries. Participants on the venue are required to undergo identity verification and sanctions screening, with trades settled atomically on the network.
