Turkey to Ban Social Media Use for Under-15s from November 2026

Turkey will prohibit individuals under 15 years of age from using social media platforms starting November 1, 2026. The government also plans restrictions for minors aged 15.

10 October 2026

Turkey is set to ban social media access for all individuals under 15 years old beginning November 1, 2026. The government announced the upcoming regulation, which will also impose limitations on social media usage for minors who have reached the age of 15.

The new rules mandate that social media companies must implement age verification processes. For minors aged 15, platforms will be required to employ measures such as content filtering and default private settings. These provisions aim to safeguard the best interests of minors and support their development, while providing parental control tools.

Furthermore, users under 18 who are 15 or older will be prohibited from using live streaming features on social networks. Social media companies will also be barred from offering addictive features, like "infinite scrolling," to accounts belonging to minors.

This legislation seeks to balance minors' access to online platforms with their protection, considering their physical, mental, social, and emotional growth.
