TÜV Rheinland Launches Standard for Evaluating Esports Display Performance

COLOGNE, August 12, 2026 – TÜV Rheinland today launched a new standard for evaluating the performance of esports displays at a major industry event in China.

The "Native Gaming Performance Display Standard" assesses both the technical specifications of displays and the actual gaming experience. The new framework incorporates two certification systems: verifying "Native Gaming Performance" and conducting a "Comprehensive Human-Factors Gaming Experience" assessment.

According to the company, the esports display market is evolving beyond competition based solely on technical hardware specifications. While high refresh rates and fast response times remain important indicators, they do not always guarantee clearer visuals or a better user experience. In some cases, advertised performance improvements may rely on overclocking or special modes that can compromise image quality or system stability.

"Our goal is to help consumers make informed purchasing decisions and to support manufacturers in developing products that reflect real user needs," said Jay Yang, Global Senior Vice President of TÜV Rheinland Electrical. The standard aims to bring clarity to the market and assist consumers in selecting displays that offer genuine performance.

In addition to the standard, TÜV Rheinland has launched the "Esports Display Experience Ecosystem Initiative" with industry partners. Founding members include organizations across the entire value chain, from semiconductor and panel manufacturers to product development and retail. The initiative aims to promote the use of standardized evaluation criteria and human factors research throughout the display ecosystem.
