Twitch Streamers Gain Option to Block Content Training for Amazon AI
Twitch has introduced an opt-out mechanism allowing streamers to prevent their content from being used to train Amazon's generative artificial intelligence models.
Streamers on the Amazon-owned platform Twitch can now choose to exclude their content from being used in the development of Amazon's generative AI models. This new policy, detailed on a Twitch support page, ensures that users' streams, video-on-demand recordings, clips, chat logs, and channel images and text will not contribute to future AI training aimed at generating or synthesizing text, audio, images, or video.
The opt-out affects only generative AI training. Other AI-powered features essential for platform functionality, such as automated captions and safety tools designed to moderate content, will continue to operate regardless of a streamer's choice. This distinction highlights the platform's effort to separate content usage for AI generation from AI for operational tools.
Twitch has clarified that when a streamer opts out, their specific content is protected. However, participation in another user's chat is subject to the host streamer's opt-out preferences. If the host stream is used for AI training, the content of any accompanying chat may also be included.
This move by Twitch comes as concerns grow across the digital landscape regarding the ethical implications and data privacy surrounding the use of user-generated content for AI model training. The platform's decision provides users with greater control over their digital footprint on the service.
