Two Men Arrested for Stealing Computer Memory from Hotels
Police in China's Xinjiang have arrested two men suspected of stealing computer memory modules from multiple hotels. In a two-week period, they allegedly stole 16 modules and profited over 13,000 yuan.
Two men have been arrested in China's Xinjiang region for a series of thefts targeting computer memory modules in hotels. The North Yilu Police Station of the Eighth Division City Public Security Bureau recently solved the case, according to IT Home, a Chinese tech news outlet.
The suspects, identified as Li and Cheng, allegedly operated for half a month, from May 15 to May 31. During this period, they reportedly checked into hotel rooms and proceeded to dismantle the computers to steal the memory modules. They are accused of stealing a total of 16 memory modules.
After acquiring the stolen goods, Li is said to have sold them on second-hand trading platforms and through local stores, aiming to attract buyers with low prices. The duo reportedly profited over 13,200 yuan (approximately $1,800 USD) from these sales.
Hotels quickly noticed the missing components as the computers became unusable. This led to police investigations, which resulted in the apprehension of Li and Cheng. The suspects are currently under criminal detention as the case proceeds.
