Two Oribe Shampoos Recalled Due to Potential Bacterial Contamination
Kao USA Inc. is voluntarily recalling two Oribe shampoo products due to potential contamination with Pluralibacter gergoviae bacteria.

Kao USA Inc. has initiated a voluntary recall of two Oribe brand shampoo products in the United States due to potential contamination with the bacterium Pluralibacter gergoviae. The recall affects Oribe Serene Scalp Densifying Shampoo in 8.5 oz and 33.8 oz sizes.
The presence of Pluralibacter gergoviae raises concerns about potential infections for users, particularly those with weakened immune systems. This bacterium is known for its resistance to common preservatives used in cosmetic products.
The affected products were manufactured between February 21 and February 26, 2026. Specific lot codes and UPCs for the recalled items are detailed in a notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Consumers who purchased the affected products are advised to discontinue use immediately and contact the company for a full refund. Kao USA Inc. stated the recall is voluntary and they are cooperating with the FDA.
