U-wifi Partners With T-Mobile to Expand Affordable Internet Access
U-wifi and T-Mobile are launching a new nationwide program on October 1st to provide affordable internet access, aiming to address the gap left by the expiration of federal connectivity subsidies.
Internet provider U-wifi has announced a strategic agreement with T-Mobile to expand access to affordable internet nationwide. The new program, scheduled to launch on October 1, 2026, is designed to offer solutions for households impacted by the expiration of the FCC's Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP).
The ACP previously provided a $30 monthly subsidy for internet to over 23 million households. Its discontinuation has widened the digital divide, particularly in economically disadvantaged communities. U-wifi will leverage T-Mobile's 5G network in conjunction with its proprietary FreeU™ technology, which offers monthly discounts or potentially free service through voluntary ad engagement.
The initiative aims to deliver affordable and flexible wireless broadband solutions, specifically targeting low-income households, students, seniors, and veterans. Additionally, U-wifi is introducing a ProtectU™ solution designed to provide backup internet connectivity for homes.
U-wifi aims to reconnect digitally excluded communities and ensure internet connectivity remains accessible. A T-Mobile representative emphasized the company's commitment to improving connectivity access.
