Uber Cuts 10% of Workforce, Stock Rises

Uber announced on Wednesday it is reducing its workforce by 10 percent, which amounts to 3,300 job cuts. The ride-hailing service had reported a total of 34,000 employees in its 2025 annual filing.

In an email to employees, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi explained that the organizational changes are designed to "remove layers, simplify team structures, refine our global location strategy, and focus our people and investments against the biggest opportunities ahead." He added that a leaner organization will lead to "clearer ownership, faster decisions, and more time spent building rather than coordinating."

The company joins a trend of technology firms, including Apple and TikTok, that have recently announced layoffs. Uber emphasized that it is reducing bloated management layers, but, unlike many others, it did not attribute the cuts to artificial intelligence. To streamline, Uber is concentrating teams in its largest global hubs, New York and San Francisco, and prioritizing in-office collaboration.

Uber's stock saw a nearly 2% increase on Wednesday afternoon following the announcement. The company reported earnings per share in line with expectations but revenue slightly below analyst forecasts. Uber's stock has decreased by 19% over the past 12 months.
