Uber Expands Bike Taxi Service to 100 More Indian Cities
Ride-hailing company Uber has expanded its bike taxi service, Uber Bike, to an additional 100 cities across India. This move increases Uber's presence in the two-wheeler mobility market amid significant competition.
Uber, a major player in ride-hailing services, has announced the expansion of its bike taxi service, Uber Bike, to 100 new cities in India. This brings the total number of Indian cities where the service operates to over 220. The company aims to deepen its reach in smaller towns and strengthen its position in the country's two-wheeler mobility sector.
The Uber Bike service is now operational across 18 states and one union territory, including newly added cities such as Jammu, Tirunelveli, Silchar, and Jamnagar. The expansion occurs as bike taxis face varying regulatory landscapes across different Indian states.
Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, welcomed the expansion and urged states to adopt the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025. These guidelines are intended to facilitate the adoption of bike taxis and other new mobility services, promoting affordable connectivity and job creation.
Bike taxis have been a point of contention, with some states like Goa and Uttar Pradesh officially permitting the service, while others, such as Maharashtra and Karnataka, are still deliberating. Uber faces substantial competition in this segment, notably from Rapido, which holds a significant market share.
