Uber to Cut 200-250 Jobs in India Amid Global Restructuring

Ride-hailing major Uber is implementing layoffs affecting an estimated 200 to 250 employees in India. This reduction is part of a wider global restructuring effort that will see the company eliminate approximately 3,300 positions worldwide.

The Indian workforce reductions are expected to impact both individual contributors and management. These layoffs follow a previous round of job cuts in the country where around 80 roles were eliminated just six months ago. Sources indicate the latest cuts will primarily affect technology and operations teams, with the artificial intelligence solutions division being halved.

Uber stated the organizational changes aim to remove layers and increase speed. The company affirmed its commitment to India as a key market and plans to strengthen its regional operations to drive mobility business across the Asia-Pacific region.

Globally, Uber is reducing its workforce by about 10% to simplify its structure and redirect resources toward its core mobility and delivery businesses, as well as its autonomous vehicle initiatives. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi noted that years of rapid expansion have led to increased organizational complexity and slower decision-making.
