Ubisoft among bidders for Microsoft-owned studio Arkane Lyon
Ubisoft has reportedly submitted a bid to acquire Arkane Lyon from Microsoft as the Xbox division continues to restructure its studio operations.
Ubisoft is seeking to acquire French developer Arkane Lyon, best known for its work on the Dishonored and Deathloop franchises. According to reports, Microsoft is exploring a sale of the studio, with at least two other anonymous parties having expressed interest in the asset.
The potential divestment is part of a broader reorganization strategy under Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. Microsoft has recently consolidated and downsized several internal operations, leading to speculation regarding the future of the studio's current project, a Marvel Blade title. In addition to potential corporate buyers, Microsoft is reportedly considering an option for the studio's management to take ownership and operate independently, similar to past spin-offs like Double Fine.
Negotiations regarding the studio's future have been extended by one month as Microsoft reviews its options. The uncertainty has prompted concerns among the studio's roughly 217 staff members. With Ubisoft also undergoing its own internal cost-cutting measures, the outcome of any potential acquisition remains subject to further development and regulatory considerations.
