Ubisoft has officially moved into production for a new Far Cry game, codenamed Kodiak, developed by its new studio Vantage Studios. The title, an open-world first-person shooter, reportedly passed its concept phase earlier this month. It is described as emphasizing "player investment and player-driven narrative."

The project builds on the foundations of a previously canceled Far Cry spin-off, codenamed Maverick. Maverick was intended to be an "extraction shooter" with permadeath mechanics, but Ubisoft has abandoned that direction. Kodiak is described as an ambitious project with several years until its potential release.

Separately, development continues on the next mainline Far Cry installment, codenamed Blackbird, widely believed to be Far Cry 7. This title has reportedly overcome internal delays and is back on track, featuring a co-op mode for players to explore the game world together.

Charlie Guillemot, co-CEO of Vantage Studios and son of Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, called Blackbird "truly impressive" and "act one," suggesting a potential for future sequels based on its success. Vantage Studios is a key studio for Ubisoft's major IPs.
