Shenzhen-based robotics company UBTECH officially unveiled its U1 Series, a full-sized humanoid robot aimed at consumers, on Tuesday. This launch signifies a significant push into the household robotics sector, capitalizing on growing demand for AI-powered companions. The introduction was made under UBTECH's new consumer brand, UWorld.

The U1 Series has already secured over 11,000 pre-orders since sales opened on JD.com on June 2, according to UBTECH founder Zhou Jian. The company showcased more than 50 robot models of varying body types, with heights ranging from 1.60 to 1.85 meters.

Positioned as an AI companion for households, the U1 Series features 88 high-degree-of-freedom joints and an emotional AI model designed for sustained user interaction. UBTECH stated that user interaction data is encrypted and stored locally by default, with no mandatory cloud uploads.

The robot lineup includes three variants: Lite, Pro, and Ultra, priced between 119,800 yuan ($17,600) and 990,000 yuan ($145,000). The company plans to commence shipping the first batch of orders on September 16.
